World Cup Picks - Friday 11/25

Went 1-3 today. The 3 losses were all by one goal. Sucks but let's get back to a good day.

WALES VS IRAN

Iran got rocked by England which was expected, especially since their goalkeeper got rocked himself, which means Iran will be with their backup again for this one. Wales was pressured all game by the USA, and should have lost except for their late PK. They didn't look good at all, but they also have some starters coming back from injury to help out. There's no doubt this game is going to be a low scoring game. There's really no value in betting the under 2.5 goals, but I like the way Iran played against England even with them losing 6-2. I think both teams will be coming out and play with a lot of energy and toughness especially on the defensive side.

QATAR VS SENEGAL

I was expecting Qatar to come out strong and show a bit during their first game. I was wrong. They looked absolutely terrible. For Senegal, they put up a great fight without their best player, but gave up two goals late to the Netherlands. Both of these team need a win to have any sort of chance of advancing, especially if Ecuador draws. I have no doubt Senegal is the better team here, and I am a bit worried that Qatar has trained for such a long time together, but the way this team played in it's first game, I don't see them beating Senegal. For better odds, I'm parlaying Senegal with the under.

NETHERLANDS VS ECUADOR

I'm not big on Ecuador in this World Cup. Sure, they looked great, but it was against Qatar. Qatar held possession as much as they did last game, but somehow didn't even take a shot. Ecuador wasn't scoring before this tournament, and don't think they have a shot of taking out this Dutch team with all their talent. I don't really see them getting on the board, but I'm not comfortable with a shutout, especially because crazier things have happened. But I am very confident that the Netherlands wins by controlling the majority of possession and having a bunch of crisp passes leading up to a goal or two.

UNITED STATES VS ENGLAND

Well this is what the US has waited for. The United States looked great for the majority of the Wales game, but they just couldn't get it done. The problem here is England has a really dominant team, and the US just isn't used to playing this caliber. The only issue with England is their defense, which you saw when Iran pressured at certain points in the game, and scored twice. I just can't see the United States winning this one as solid as they looked the first game. I don't really see a draw happening either. The fact is, England is just way more talented. That being said, I do like both teams to score here, since the US has a solid offense and midfield that can definitely put one in against a shaky defense.
